Legacy systems can be reliable for years, but outdated runtimes, emerging security vulnerabilities, and compatibility issues can create challenges that businesses cannot afford to ignore.
When reliable technology reaches end of support
Take PHP 7.4. It reached end of life on 28 November 2022, which means it no longer receives security patches from the PHP project. Applications still running on it may be exposed to vulnerabilities that will not be fixed in that branch.
A practical upgrade, without a full rebuild
The solution isn’t always to rebuild everything from scratch. Sometimes, it’s about understanding the existing system, identifying the risks, and upgrading it without disrupting what already works.
Recently, our team upgraded a system from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.3, resolving the security and compatibility challenges that came with it, in just one day.
PHP 8.3 receives security fixes until 31 December 2027. Keeping a system reliable also means planning for the next upgrade before support ends.
The right approach makes the difference
